Complications of Pemphigus Gravidarum in Patients
Keywords: Pemphigus, Gestations, Disease, Trimester, Pregnancy, Mdm, Complications.
Abstract: Background: Pemphigus Gestationis can be defined as a bullous skin disease (characterized by blisters resembling second-degree burns) that develops during pregnancy and is believed to be an autoimmune disorder. It occurs during pregnancy, usually in the second or third trimester, where 9 studies were included in the study, which were published between 2005 and 2025, and data regarding study design, sample characteristics, clinical outcomes, and therapy were retrieved and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively to evaluate pregnancy outcomes, disease course, and therapeutic efficacy. Analysis of the Results which found revealed that Systemic corticosteroids were the most commonly used treatment, which was effective at controlling the disease activity in the mother and at promoting positive pregnancy outcomes, in addition to increased risk of preterm delivery, intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, and neonatal pemphigoid in a subset of cases, with an incidence of disease flares during early pregnancy and postpartum. It was concluded that the MDM and early intervention are crucial to improving the health of mothers and babies. Lastly, in our meta-analysis, Pemphigus gravidarum carries significant risks when the disease occurs during pregnancy but can be adequately treated if diagnosed in time and treatment given accordingly.
